Rat’s Registered Name: BWR__________________________ Variety: _________________________ NARR #:______________ DOB: ________________ Sex: ____________ Sire: _______________________________ Dam: _______________________________ The following constitutes an agreement between Black Wolf Rattery (hereinafter known as BWR) and the adopting party (hereinafter referred to as Adopter) regarding the rat listed on this document. These terms and conditions are entered into and agreed upon by both Adopter and BWR and they acknowledge the moral and legal worth of this contract. The rat is to be adopted as a pet solely for the Adopter and his/her immediate family for the agreed upon adoption fee of $___, (includes the non-refundable deposit of $10) which helps BWR cover the expenses of raising and caring for the rat. Therefore, it is agreed upon that: 1. Adopter realizes and agrees the rat is first and foremost, above all else, a pet. Adopter understands that breeding of the rat is permissible, as agreed to by BWR. Adopter understands the rat, if female, Is not to be bred for the first time before six months of age, but not after nine months of age, and is not to produce more than two litters in a lifetime, and is to be allowed adequate recovery time (at least 12 weeks from the time of weaning the previous litter) between litters. Adopter understands the rat, if male, is not to be bred before eight months of age, preferably closer to twelve months of age, but may be bred at any time or as many times after eight months of age, as long as he is fertile and physically able to do so. 2. Adopter understands the rat is not to bred with any other rat with less than a third generation pedigree unless otherwise permitted in writing by BWR. Adopter agrees not to cull or destroy healthy offspring of the rat. 3. Adopter understands and agrees the rat may not be sold, lent, traded, or in any way used by another rattery, breeder, organization, or individual for stud service or to be bred without express written permission of BWR, including co-breedings. 4. Adopter understands and agrees the rat and its offspring will not be intended for feeder purposes, nor will they be sold in a pet store. Adopter agrees to not adopt any direct descendents of the rat to any breeder who culls/kills or breeds rats for feeder purposes or to be sold in a pet store. 5. BWR reserves the right to second pick of any litter resulting from breedings using this animal. BWR also reserves the right to temporarily reclaim the rat at any point in the future for breeding purposes should this become necessary in improving our bloodlines. 6. Adopter realizes and agrees the rat is first and foremost, above all else, a pet. As such, it is to be cared for through its entire nature lifespan. Adopter understands and agrees to this responsibility, and realizes rats generally live two to three years. 7. Adopter understands and agrees that if for any reason he or she is no longer able to properly care for the rat by him or herself or by a family member in the same household the rat is to be returned to BWR immediately. Adopter agrees not to release the rat to any other person, dealer, retailer, auction, shelter, rescue, institute, or any other entity or abandon the rat for any reason. BWR reserves the right to reclaim and confiscate the rat if Adopter is unable to properly care for the animal. Adopter understands and agrees that family members not residing in the household may not override this arrangement. 8. Adopter agrees to provide adequate medical care. Adopter realizes rats can be prone to certain ailments and that the rat is a living animal that requires prompt medical care when necessary. 9. Adopter realizes rats are sociable animals and need a same sex or neutered companion and agrees to provide such a companion for the rat. 10. Adopter agrees to provide adequate housing and understands aquariums cannot provide a suitable living space for rats. Adopter understands cedar and pine are unacceptable bedding for the rat and agrees to use a safe alternative. Adopter agrees to keep the rat’s housing clean and provide the best living environment possible. 11. Adopter agrees to provide a proper, nutritious diet and clean water at all times. Adopter understands mixes high in seeds and nuts or contain alfalfa pellets are an inappropriate diet for rats. 12. Adopter understands the importance of proper quarantine and true quarantine involves housing the animal in a separate airspace from other rats or other rodents that may share communicable diseases. Adopter agrees to quarantine for a minimum of three weeks. 13. Adopter understands the importance of good record keeping for BWR. With this understanding in mind, Adopter agrees to keep the breeder up-to-date on the health and temperament of the rat. Adopter also agrees to notify BWR about the date and cause of death of the rat. Adopter understands BWR will periodically inquire about the rat to stay informed. Adopter understands registration with the North American Rat Registry (NARR) is strongly recommended and encouraged. 14. Adopter agrees to use the prefix BWR in the formal naming of the rat in pedigrees, on websites, and other official documentation where the rat’s name is stated. 15. Adopter understands the rat is, to the best of BWR’s knowledge, free of any illness or contagious disease at the time of adoption. Adopter is responsible for quarantine of the rat for at least three weeks after taking possession of the rat. If during this three week period the rat develops any illness or contagious disease, the Adopter may return the animal to BWR for a refund. Any illness that occurs after the quarantine period or as a result of improper or insufficient quarantine is the responsibility of the Adopter. No other warranties, expressed or implied, are made under this contracted, as stated herein. 16. Adopter understands the importance of a good line of communication in the event of an emergency.
