At the time this litter was bred I was basically starting over and figuring out which direction I was going. I wanted to work with Burmese, but had also always had a love for mink, and was somewhat interested in Russian blue. Godiva was supposed to be a mink and help me get started in that direction. Having mink in her litter was a bit of surprise since there had been no mink in her background for many many generations. While Godiva had good size and excellent ears, her overall type had something to be desired. She was a bit stocky and short in the body with small eyes. However her temperament was excellent, as one of my most affectionate and attention-craving rats. She was bred to a Russian blue male who I hoped would improve on her type. He was known to carry Siamese and mink, so I expected mink to show up in the litter. As it turned out only blacks, beige, and Siamese were produced. It was then determined that Godiva was actually a chocolate, not a mink. Her babies inherited her excellent temperament, and have been incorporated into my breeding program to keep that temperament.
