The litter's paternal grandmother, Aiko, had shown some signs of respiratory sensitivities (allergies), while the maternal side had shown good respiratory health up to this time. I suspected part of the respiratory sensitivities on Aiko's side has to do with the longer heads: longer narrow heads also mean longer narrow sinuses, which can lead to problems such as allergies or sinus infections. Nymph's side had shorter, broader heads, and had so far shown no signs of allergies or sinus problems. I hoped by improving the type, particularly heads, I can also improve on the health, particularly respiratory health. Both sides also had excellent temperaments, which I hoped to improve. Further, the line-breeding would continue to help me better determine the health of these rats, as well as cement in the desired traits.
