Nymph was one of the most affectionate rats I have ever known. She was completely drawn toward people, so much I think she believed she was a human not a rat. I am convinced that without human attention she would have shriveled away. Nymph was also a real trooper. She developed a tumor at about 17 months of age. When medical treatment failed to slow or stop the growth of the tumor I opted to have it removed, one week before her 24 month birthday. Nymph made it through the surgery well, slept off the anesthesia, and was back to her normal self the next day – without pain medication! She had since done well, lived and loved life. Other than the tumor Nymph had not suffered from any health problems.
Nymph had nice overall type for a female. She had good size and decent bone. Her head was a good size, but a little flat. Her ears were round, but small, but her eyes were excellent. Her tail was round, but a little thing. Her color was excellent, with color down to her toes and almost no silvering.
Nymph was bred to improve and maintain type as well as maintain excellent temperament and improve respiratory health. By the time she developed her tumor her daughter had already been bred. While the tumor was being removed and biopsied I canceled plans to breed Nymph’s granddaughter. Since the biopsy results showed the tumor to be a benign fibroma, and unlikely to be hereditary, this line was continued through Nymph's son and will be continued through her other descendants.
